| BARNDAZE - The Biggest Philanthropy On Campus |
This year we held our 70th annual Barn Daze Philanthropy event. Originally started as a dance back in 1937, Barn Daze has evolved into the premier philanthropic event. It is one of the largest and most exciting things that happens every March when the WSU students return from Spring Break.
The Sigma chapter raises all of our money for the Wishing Star Foundation of Spokane. The foundation grants wishes to children ages 3 through 21 with life threatening illnesses through Washington and Idaho. This year we raised over $2,500 through the sales of t-shirts, sponsorship, and participation fees.
Barn Daze is spread over three days. There are four events that the sororities of WSU are asked to participate in. The first is a fire watch. Throughout the week we keep a bon fire going all hours of the day. Each sorority is given a time to watch to fire and keep it burning. They are graded on how many girls come to watch. There is also a Skit/Serenade night. Participants are graded on creativeness. The next night is the Goddess of Demeter contest. The contest is broken into two parts, a talent and a question and answer section. One girl from each sorority participates in the contest. The final event is the flag football tournament. It is the most competitive part of the whole philanthropy. In the past the winner of the tournament has generally won the whole Philanthropy. So if you are ever in Pullman the week following Spring Break, stop by and enjoy Barn Daze.
